This brochure introduces the Alveo Sense Poultry Avian Influenza Test configured to detect Type A, H5, and H9 subtypes and covers the same value proposition: lab-comparable accuracy, sub-hour results, simple app-guided operation, and decentralized testing that supports surveillance and rapid response.
Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate is Alveo Sense compared to RT-PCR?
In validation studies the test showed ≥ 99% positive percent agreement and ≥ 99% negative percent agreement versus a reference RT-PCR assay across oropharyngeal and cloacal samples. Analytical sensitivity corresponds to roughly Ct 28–33 on RT-PCR. Findings are published in a peer-reviewed journal (linked in the resources).
What training is required to run a test?
The full workflow is guided step-by-step in the Alveo Sense app. No lab setup, centrifuge, or skilled technical background needed. Initial training typically takes under an hour. If a team can collect swab samples, they can run the test.
What should we do if we get a positive result?
Alveo Sense delivers a preliminary result to your smartphone within an hour, which lets you begin response preparation. A positive or presumptive-positive result should be followed by confirmatory testing and any actions required under applicable local, state, national, or other jurisdictional regulations.
How is my data protected?
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest and stored in secure AWS cloud infrastructure. Access is controlled through authentication, authorization, and administrative safeguards designed to protect electronic data from unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure.
How long does the full process take, from sample to result?
Under one hour. Once the sample is collected and loaded onto the cartridge, the assay runs for about 45 minutes in the Analyzer, and results transmit to your smartphone over Bluetooth.
Does the system work without an internet connection?
Yes. The app includes an offline mode supporting up to 10 tests per paired Analyzer (memory permitting). Results store securely on the device and upload once connectivity returns.
Can we test multiple barns or locations in a single visit?
Yes. The system is designed to support testing across multiple barns or locations during a single farm visit. Up to six analyzers can be paired to one smartphone and operated simultaneously, allowing multiple samples to be processed in parallel while maintaining separate result reporting for each analyzer.
Can I store the system and tests at room temperature?
Yes. The test kit storage recommendation is 2–30 °C; the Analyzer is 15–30 °C.
How are results interpreted?
Results report as Positive, Negative, or Invalid per target. See the IFU for the complete interpretation table for each panel, including presumptive-positive combinations.
